Equipment

  • 1 waffle iron

Ingredients

  • 1 cup buttermilk (250ml)
  • 1 egg (size L)
  • 3 tbsp melted butter (45g)
  • ¼ cup sugar (50g)
  • 1 sachet vanilla sugar (or 1 tsp vanilla extract)
  • 1 cup all purpose flour (120g)
  • ¼ cup cornstarch (30g)
  • tbsp matcha powder
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • ¼ tsp baking powder
  • ¼ tsp baking soda

Instructions

  • Combine all the wet ingredients (buttermilk, egg, melted butter) in a single bowl.
  • Sift the dry ingredients into the bowl of buttermilk and egg.
  • Preheat your waffle iron. To prevent sticking, brush some melted butter onto the waffle iron's surface.
  • Use a ladle to pour three to four scoops of batter onto the waffle iron, adjusting the quantity depending on your waffle iron's size.
  • Cook the waffles until they are fully done (no steam rising from the waffle maker).
  • Gently remove the waffles from the iron. Enjoy!!

Notes

  • You can made homemade buttermilk by combining 1 cup (250ml) of milk with 1 tsp of vinegar (5%), allowing it to sit for 10 minutes.
  • Potato starch can be used as a substitute for cornstarch.
  • Ceremonial grade matcha will result in waffles with a richer green color.
  • If your sugar has larger granules, you can mix it with the wet ingredients instead of dry ingredients.
