Ingredients

Steamed Jasmine Rice (i used my quick, easy microwaved jasmine rice recipe to save time)

  • 1 cup jasmine rice (250ml)
  • cup boiling water (440ml)

Lemongrass Ground Beef:

  • 1 pound ground beef (450)
  • 1 tbsp minced lemongrass
  • ½ tbsp minced garlic (optional)
  • 2 tbsp fish sauce (to your taste)
  • 1 tbsp oyster sauce (to your taste)
  • ½ tbsp sugar (to your taste)
  • ½ tsp Vietnamese 5-spice powder (optional)

Instructions

Cook the rice:

  • Place the rice in a bowl, fill it with water, swirl the water around with your hand, and then drain. Repeat this process 2 to 3 times until the water looks clear. Drain the rice well.
  • Combine the rice with boiling water in a microwave-safe bowl.
  • Place a plate over the bowl and set another plate beneath it to catch any potential water leakage during the cooking process.
  • Microwave the rice on high for 10 minutes. Afterward, fluff the rice, cover the bowl again, and microwave for an additional 3 minutes (mine is 700 watts).
  • Finally, let the cooked rice rest for 5 minutes.

Cook the beef and assemble the rice bowl:

  • Heat 1 tbsp cooking oil in a pan. Add minced garlic and lemongrass, sauté until fragrant.
  • Add the ground beef and cook over medium-high heat.
  • When the beef is halfway cooked, season it with oyster sauce, fish sauce, sugar, and Vietnamese 5-spice powder to your taste. Avoid overcooking the beef.
  • Place jasmine rice in a bowl and generously top it with the Vietnamese ground beef. Ready to enjoy!
